Please note

Because of the lack of published trowel and masonry tool histories, the information here is based on other sources that may be less reliable and certainly are incomplete. These include eBay and tools that I purchase myself that are the starting points for my research. I will write what I know as I learn it. If what you read here interests you, please check back often and look for revisions and corrections. Scanned catalogs are on Archive.org as pdf files. A few are links to other websites. History of H. Carter & Son

The Iron Age, Vol. 11, No. 4, 23 Jan. 1873, pg. 10
H. Carter & Son was a mid-1870s manufacturer of tools for foundry molders and plasterers. We have found references to the firm between 1870 and 1877. They were operating at 290 Pearl St., New York City, in 1873. Another product they made was J.W. Bemis's patent carriage jack.

At least one Carter molding tool has sold in recent years, according to WorthPoint.
