Bowdon & Co. Sheffield Trowels

Bowden & Co. stamp on brick trowel
Bowdon & Co. was a secondary brand of Joseph Tyzack & Son, Sheffield, and registered as a trademark by Tyzack in December, 1888. Joseph Tyzack's first business was at 160 Fitzwilliam St., then he moved a block over to Bowdon Street, the source of the name Bowdon & Co. The Bowdon & Co. stamp appears on brick and pointing trowels, hand saws, back saws, hatchets, and other tools. Tyzack relocated to Meersbrook Works on Valley Road in Heeley in 1876.

  5. Hello, came across this site while reaserching the name Bowden. I have come into ownership of a pair of sheep shears that have sadly been cut in half,?????. One of the blades is just stamped with the name Bowden. They look very old. Could anyone tell me anything about them. Thanks.

  6. Mark, I have just bought a small cleaver (AU $2) and upon cleaning and sharpening found the Bowdon & Co stamp with Sheffield under that. The handle is loose and looks like it could be the original. Would you have any information on it?
