History of Thomas Turner & Co., Sheffield

Thomas Turner & Co. was a cutlery and tool manufacturer of Suffolk Works, Sheffield, England. They were particularly known for cutlery and knives of all kinds, and also made brick trowels, wood chisels, hand saws, and other hand tools.

The following chronology is an edited quote from Grace's Guide to British Industrial History:

1802 Company established.

1898 Amalgamated with Wingfield, Rowbotham and Co.

1914 Manufacturers of crucible steel, saws, files, table and pocket cutlery, scissors, razors, edge tools and electro-plate. Specialties: Joseph Hayward and Co's celebrated "Kettle" brand pen and pocket knives. Employees 800.

circa 1922 Amalgamated with other cutlery companies to form a company named Sheffield Cutlery Manufacturers.

By 1929 the company was known as Thomas Turner and Co (Sheffield).

1929 Listed Exhibitor - British Industries Fair. Manufacturers of canteens, flatware, hotelware, safety razor blades, cutlery, scissors, pocket knives, pewterware, butchers knives, slicers, palette and cooks' knives.

1947 Listed Exhibitor, British Industries Fair. 

1951 Thomas Turner and Co (Cutlers, Sheffield) - makers of Pedigree cutlery.
